INTEGRATED FIRE MANAGEMENT (IFM)
Strategic, coordinated and effective framework for fighting unwanted fires.
Integrated Fire Management (IFM) is a series of actions implemented through reduction, readiness, response and recovery planning and management. Activities in IFM include fire awareness, fire prevention, prescribed burning, resource sharing and coordination, fire detection, fire suppression, fire damage rehabilitation and research at a local, provincial and national level to create a sustainable and well-balanced environment, reduce wildfire damage and promote the beneficial use of fire.
FIRE DANGER RATING SYSTEM
A Fire Danger Rating System is used to provide a measure of the relative seriousness of burning conditions and threat of fire by providing an accurate measure of the relative seriousness of burning conditions. The system also serves as an aid to fire control programs. It processes and evaluates factors influencing fire danger systematically and represent them in the form of fire indexes.
FIRE DANGER INDEX (FDI)
The Fire Danger Index (FDI) is a quantitative indicator of one or more facets of fire danger and is represented by five colours indicating the likelihood of fire occurring in a given area.
- FDI 0 – 20 = LOW FIRE DANGER
- FDI 21 – 45 = MODERATE FIRE DANGER
- FDI 46 – 60 = DANGEROUS FIRE DANGER
- FDI 61 – 75 = VERY DANGEROUS FIRE DANGER
- FDI 76 – 100 = EXTREMELY DANGEROUS FIRE DANGER
